A November Delight

Dark-eyed Junco Junco hyemalis
1 November 2013

For several days now, we have been seeing Dark-eyed Juncos that have returned from their northern breeding grounds and have taken up residence in southern Ontario for the winter. Our backyard is patronized every year by this muted, but nonetheless delightful, little bird, and once the last part of October arrives we begin to eagerly look for them. They are not prone to alighting on feeders so I always make sure to strew bird seed around the yard and it gives us great pleasure to watch them kicking and scraping to find their food.
Three of them were hopping around our yard this morning.

A couple of House Sparrows kept them company

  1. Beautiful bird David and even in your garden. The house sparrow is with you. Here come the birds again in the garden and that the sparrows, spreewen, coal and blue tits and the robin. The doves and blackbirds know in our garden to find their food :-)
